Renaissance Charter School

The Renaissance Charter School is a Pre-K-12, 600 person public charter school located in the heart of Jackson Heights, Queens, New York. Having been at this location over twenty years, the 1000 square foot administrative office needed a renovation. Students, teachers, parents and visitors traverse the office throughout the day such that it acts as the conceptual front door to the school. Due to a tight 2 month schedule from start of design to move-in, only the walls could be touched. The goal of the design was to do minimum work and make maximum impact.

The workstations were built with manufactured metal bases, using custom laminate tops and high quality polycarbonate roofing material captured within aluminum channel. Super graphics in the school colors of red and black were used for their low-cost yet high impact effect to make a strong first impression. The school logo was redesigned to more accurately reflect the mission of the school ‘to create leaders for the future of New York City’.
